Biography Okamoto Koen (1895–year of death unknown) was a Japanese-style painter (nihonga) born in Hyogo Prefecture. She studied at the Kousai Private Painting School, run by her brother-in-law Okamoto Taikou, and later trained under Kaburaki Kiyokata and Nishiyama Suishou. Specializing in bijinga (portraits of beautiful women), she was an active central figure in the Osaka Women’s Painting Circle. She also produced illustrations for newspapers and magazines.
