Biography Yamada Masaaki (1929–2010) was a Western-style painter born in Tokyo. After graduating from Tokyo Metropolitan College of Technology, he studied under Hasegawa Saburo. He exhibited works at the Yomiuri Indépendant Exhibition and the Jiyu Bijutsuka Kyokai exhibitions. In his early career, he focused primarily on still-life painting; over time, his work became increasingly abstract, leading to the creation of striped series and monochrome paintings. He was recognized as one of the artists who attracted attention in the field of contemporary painting.
