Artist Takeuchi Tsurunosuke

Biography Takeuchi Tsurunosuke (1881–1948) was a Western-style painter born in Kanagawa Prefecture. He studied oil painting during a stay in the United States, and later went to the United Kingdom, where he enrolled at the London School of Art. There, he studied under Edward Stott and mastered pastel techniques. After returning to Japan, he exhibited at the Kofukai and the Bunten exhibitions( Ministry of EducationArt Exhibition). Together with artists such as Yazaki Chiyoji, he played a key role in developing and promoting pastel painting in Japan.
