Biography Kurata Shoto(1865-1928)was a Japanese style painter born in Akita prefecture. His given name was Onotaro. He studied under Hirafuku Hoan and began wandering extensively from a young age. He was an active participant in the Imperial Art Exhibition (Teiten), and was skilled in Buddhist and haiku-themed painting. Kurata was also a member of the Tsumaki Art Society and the Japan Art Association.
