Biography Matsumoto Ichiyo(1893-1952) was a Japanese painter born in Kyoto. Graduated from Kyoto-shiritsu Kaiga Senmon Gakko (Kyoto City Specialist School of Painting). Studied painting under Yamamoto Shunkyo and Kawamura Manshu. His paintings Senshun and Semimaru received special commendation at the Imperial Academy Art Exhibition. He later served as a judge at both the Imperial Academy Art Exhibition and the Japan Art Exhibition. Ichiyo conducted in-depth research on traditional Yamato-e painting and was particularly known for his refined historical genre scenes.
