Biography Hirafuku Hyakusui was a Japanese-style painter born in Akita Prefecture. His given name was Teizō. He first studied the Shijō school of painting under his father, Hirafuku Suian. Later, he moved to Tokyo and studied under Kawabata Gyokushō. He graduated from the Tokyo Fine Arts School. Hyakusui co-founded the Museikai with Yuki Somei, and later established the Kinreisha with Kaburaki Kiyokata and Kikkawa Reika. In addition to his achievements in painting, he was also active as a tanka poet affiliated with the Araragi school.
