Biography Ike Taiga (1723-1776) was a Japanese literati painter, born in Kyoto. The founder of Japanese Nanga (Chinese-style painting) school. Studied painting under Yanagisawa Kien and Gion Nankai. Established his own painting style, incorporating the traditions of Japanese painting and the expression methods of Western painting. His pupils include Kimura Kenkado and Aoki Shukuya.

Nagata Kanga (1738-1792) was a calligrapher born in Kyoto.
