Biography Yamada Shohei (1899-1962) was a seal carver born in Niigata. Studied Chinese classics under Mishima Chushu at the Nisho-gakusha, a private school. Son-in-law of Yamada Kanzan. Went to China and learned under Wu Changshuo in 1919. Friendship with Aizu Yaichi；executed the carving for his epitaph. A judge at the Nitten Exhibition. His collections of works include "Shoki Inpu" (compilation of seal marks).
