Title Boat Returning in Snow under the Moon
Biography Monchu Jofuku(1739-1829) was a monk of Obaku-shu sect born in Ise Province(present Mie Prefecture).

Gessen(1741-1809) was a monk of Jodo-shu sect born in Owari Province(present Aichi Prefecture). Born as a son of a miso (bean paste) maker family and became a monk of Jodo-shu at the age of 7 and lived in Zojo-ji Temple in Edo(present Tokyo). Studied painting under Sakurai Sekkan. After moving to Chion-in Temple in Kyoto, studied under Maruyama Okyo. Became the chief priest of Josho-ji Temple in Furuichi of Ise Province.
