Biography Rai Sanyo(1780-1832) was a Confucian scholar, born in Aki Province (present a part of Hiroshima Prefecture). Studied under Bido Jishu and Kan Sazan. Left the Hiroshima Domain; established and lived in the Residence of Sanshisuimei-sho in Kyoto. Written works include "Nihon Gaishi" (Unofficial History of Japan). His three sons were also well-known Confucian scholars.
