Biography Rennyo-shonin(1415-1499) was a monk of Jodo-Shinshu sect born in Kyoto, and the 8th head of the Honganji-Temple. Preached Hongan Nenbutsu teachings of Shinran-shonin through the Ofumi (Gobunsho) letters to people. Established the Honganji-Temple in Yamashina, Kyoto and Ishiyama, Osaka. Known as the restorer of Jodo Shinshu sect.

Kyonyo-shonin(1558-1614) was a monk of Jodo-Shinshu sect born in Settsu Province (present parts of Osaka and Hyogo Prefectures). Led the Ishiyama battle against Oda Nobunaga with his father, Kennyo. Succeeded the 12th head of Honganji-Temple, handed the position over to his little brother, Suinyo by the order of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Established the Higashi Honganji-Temple by the order of Tokugawa Ieyasu.
