Biography Koiso Ryohei (1903-1988) was a Japanese oil painter. Graduated from Tokyo School of Fine Arts (later Tokyo University of the Arts) western painting department in 1927. Studied abroad in Europe for two years. After returning to Japan, formed the Shinseisaku Association. During World War II, as a military painter, executed paintings depicting Japanese battle scenes. Awarded the Third Order of the Rising Sun, the Order of Cultural Merit, and Person of Cultural Merits. Member of the Japan Art Academy, and Emeritus professor of Tokyo University of Arts.
