Biography Koizumi Danzan (1770-1854) was a Japanese painter born in Shimotsuke Province. At the age of 11, studied painting under Shimazaki Umpo, a pupil of Takada Keiho. Excelled at sketching and drew many paintings of sweetfish. Learned Confucianism and poetry under Tachihara Suiken.
