Biography Soejima Taneomi(1828-1905) was a Japanese politician born in Bizen(present Okayama Prefecture). The second son of Edayoshi Chuzaemon, a scholar of Japanese classics and a feudal retainer of Saga Domain. Became an adopted son of Soejima Richu. Studied British studies under Guido Verbeck in Nagasaki. Worked as a court adviser, a privy councilor, and minister of home affairs in the first Matsukata administration. Also known as a calligrapher.
