Biography Kamisaka Sekka(1866-1942) was a Japanese-style painter and designer born in Kyoto. Studied under Suzuki Zuigen of Shijo school at the age of 16. Studied the crafted design under Kishi Kokei, a designer in 1890. Studied and was influenced by the Rimpa school as well. Established the Katobi Association in 1907. Kamisaka Yukichi, a makieshi(craftsman sprinkling gold or silver power on lacquer) is his brother. Taught at the Kyoto City School of the Arts.
