Biography Kobayashi Kiyochika(1847-1915) was a printmaker and Japanese woodblock(ukiyoe) artist born in Edo(present Tokyo). Served to Shogun and moved to Shizuoka after the Meiji Restoration. Studied Western painting under Wirgman and Japanese painting under Kawanabe Kyosai and Shibata Zeshin. His painting style "Kosenga" was very popular. Created the original paintings in his later years.
