Biography Manzan Dohaku(1636-1715) was a monk of Soto-shu sect born in Bingo Province(present Hiroshima Prefecture). Entered the Buddhist priesthood under Issen Dohan of Ryuko-ji Temple. Practiced Zen under Gesshu Soko and succeeded his teachings. Became the head priest of Daijo-ji Temple in Kaga(present south part of Ishikawa Prefecture). Lived in Kozen-ji Temple in Settsu and Zenjo-ji Temple in Yamashiro and Genko-an Temple. Known as a restorer of Soto-shu sect.
