Biography Mori Ippo(1798-1871) was a Japanese painter born in Osaka. Studied painting under Mori Tetsuzan and later became an adopted son of Tetsuzan. Served for Hosokawa Family, the feudal lord of Higo-Kumamoto Domain. A leading figure in the Osaka art scene. Studied with Mori Kansai and Wada Gozan under the same mentor, Tetsuzan. His pupils are Mori Jiho, Mochizuki Kinpo, etc. The painting "Ship Cutting the Algae" was highly valued as a lucky charm among the merchant houses.
