Biography Kuroda Hakuan(1742-1812) was a painter born in Awaji Province(present Awaji island, Hyogo Prefecture). His family business was metal casting. Studied Kano school at first and under Kumashiro Yuhi in Nagasaki. Traveled around the country to find the good art supplies and was called as a "wandering painter." His family business was succeeded to the brach family and devoted himself to painting. Excelled at ink painting.
