Biography Oishi Yoshio(1659-1703) was a samurai born in Harima (present south-west part of Hyogo Prefecture). Studied under Yamaga Soko and Ito Jinsai. Lead the Ako masterless 47 samurai avenged the death of their lord, Asano Takumi-no-Kami and attacked Kira Kozunosuke. The Japanese tale “Chushingura (The Treasury of Loyal Retainers)” is based on this historical incident. Excelled at calligraphy.
