Title Goeden - the Life of Shinran
Biography Shinran-shonin (1173-1262) was the founder of Jodo Shinshu sect of Buddhism, born in Kyoto. Lost both parents at an early age and entered the Buddhist priesthood under Priest Jien. Practiced at the Enryaku-ji at Mt. Hiei and later became the pupil of Honen-shonin. Suppressed and exiled to Echigo (Niigata). Later, spread the nembutsu teaching around Hitachi Province and eventually returned to Kyoto. His writings include "Kyogyoshinsho: On Teaching, Practice, Faith, and Enlightenment".

Tatsunyo-shonin(1780-1865)was a monk of Jodo Shinshu sect, born in Kyoto.
