Biography Kano Tanyu(1602-1674) was a Japanese painter born in Kyoto as the eldest son of Kano Takanobu, grandson of Kano Eitoku. At the age 16, he was appointed as an official painter for Tokugawa Shogunate and moved to Edo(now Tokyo). Produced the wall paintngs in Nijo Castle, Nagoya Castle and Imperial Palace etc. Established his own school named Kajiyabashi-Kano.

Gyokushu Soban(1600-1668) was a monk of Rinzai-shu sect born in Yamashiro Province(present southern part of Kyoto Prefecture).
