Biography Manzan Dohaku (1636-1715) was a monk of Sotoshu sect born in Bingo (present Hiroshima Prefecture). Entered the Buddhist priesthood under Issen Dohan of Ryuko-ji Temple. Practiced Zen under Gesshu Soko and succeeded his teachings. Became the head priest of Daijo-ji Temple in Kaga(present south part of Ishikawa Prefecture). Lived in Zenko-ji Temple, Settsu and Zenjo-ji Temple, Yamashiro and Genko-an Temple. Known for a restorer of Sotoshu sect.
