Title Loquat with Chinese Poem
Biography Tani Rokkoku(1729-1809) was a Chinese-style poet born in Edo(present Tokyo), a father of Tani Buncho. Served to Tayasu family(a family branch of Tokugawa) but did not like the job and studied under Irie Nanmei, a Confucian scholar.

Tani Buncho(1763-1840) was a Japanese Nanga(Chinese-style painting) painter born in Edo(present Tokyo). Studied under Kato Bunrei of Kano school and Watanabe Gentai of Chin Nampin school. Influenced by Shijo and Tosa schools and created his own style of painting. His pupils include Watanabe Kazan, Tachihara Kyosho, Takaku Aigai, etc. Pillar of Japanese Nanga paintings in Edo period.
