Biography Kusaka Genzui(1840-1864)was a Japanese imperialist born in Choshu(present Yamaguchi Prefecture). Studied under Yoshida Shoin. Became one of the two greatest pupils of the Shokason-Juku with Takasugi.

Yoshida Shoin(1830-1859)was a Japanese imperialist born in Choshu(present Yamaguchi Prefecture) as the second son of Sugi Yurinosuke, a samurai of the Nagato Clan. Succeeded to the Yoshida family serving as the master of the Yamaga-style art of war. Studied under Asaka Gonsai, Yamaga Sosui and Sakuma Shozan. His pupils include Takasugi Shinsaku and Kusaka Genzui and Ito Hirobumi and Yamagata Aritomo from his founded private school, Shokason-juku. Executed at Ansei Purge.

Takasugi Shinsaku(1839-1867)was a samurai of Choshu domain. Studied under Yoshida Shoin's private school. Became one of the two greatest pupils of the Shokason-Juku with Kusaka.
