Artist Mori Kansai
Title Bird Sleeping on Cherry Blossom Tree
Biography Mori Kansai (1814-1894) was a Japanese painter born in Nagato, now Yamaguchi Prefecture. Studied painting under Mori Tetsuzan and later became an adopted son of Tetsuzan. An active Imperialist at the end of Edo period. After the Meiji Restoration, devoted to painting and became a core pillar of Kyoto art world. Taught painting at Kyoto Prefectural Art School.
