Title Protagonist with self-inscription
Biography Torei Enji(1721-1792) was a monk of Rinzaishu sect born in Omi Province(present Shiga Prefecture). Studied under Ryozan Keirin of Daikoku-ji Temple in Notogawa, Omi city and became a monk. Studied under Kogetsu Zenzai of Daiko-ji Temple in Hyuga. Studied under Hakuin Ekaku of Shoin-ji Temple in Suruga(present part of Shizuoka Prefecture) and succeeded the teachings. The 2nd head priest of Ryutaku-ji Temple in Izu(present Shizuoka Prefecture).
