Biography Nishiyama Kanei(1834-1897) was a Japanese painter born in Osaka. A Son of Nishiyama Hoen. Studied painting under his father. Excelled at painting figures, flowers and birds. Studied Confucianism under Goto Shoin. Served for Banshu-Akashi Clan(now Hyogo Prefecture). His pupils include Mochizuki Kimpo and Kubota Tosui.
