Biography Choon Dokai(1628-1695) was a monk of Obakushu sect born in Hizen(present part of Nagasaki/Saga Prefecture). Entered the priesthood at the age of 13. Visited Ingen Ryuki at Manpuku-ji Temple and succeeded the teachings after learning under Mokuan Shoto(the 2nd head priest of Manpuku-ji Temple). Traveled across the country to devote himself to spread the teachings of Okaku-shu. Invited by Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, the feudal lord of the Tatebayashi Domain(present part of Gunma Prefecture) and founded Kosai-ji Temple.
