Biography Kano Tanyu(1602-1674) was a Japanese painter born in Kyoto as the eldest son of Kano Takanobu, grandson of Kano Eitoku. At the age 16, he was appointed as an official painter for Tokugawa Shogunate and moved to Edo(present Tokyo). His works inculde the wall paintngs in Nijo Castle, Nagoya Castle and Imperial Palace. Founder of Kajiyabashi-Kano School in Edo.
