Artist Sengai Gibon
Title Reproduction of the Writing of Shinran-shonin
Biography Sengai Gibon (1750-1837) was a Japanese monk of Rinzai-shu sect, born in Mino (present southern Gifu Prefecture). The 123th chief priest of Shofuku-ji in Hakata, the first Zen temple in Japan. Learned under Gessen Zenne. Drew many ink paintings in Haiga style with spontaneous brush strokes. One of the masters of modern Zen paintings along with Hakuin Ekaku.

Higuchi Ryuon(1800-1885) was a monk of Shinshu Otani sect, born in Mutsu Province(present Tohoku region). Studied under Tokuryu at Takakura school of Higashi Hongan-ji Temple. Studied at Omi Onjo-ji Temple and Chishaku-in Temple as well and became the head priest of Enko-ji Temple in Kyoto. His famous book is "Gutokusho Lecture," etc.
