Biography Amada Guan(1854-1904) was a poet and a monk of Rinzai-shu sect born in Mutsu Province(present Tohoku region). Traveled around the country to find his family from whom he parted at the Boshin war. Became an adopted son of Shimizu no Jirocho and got a protection of Yamaoka Tesshu. Became a monk of Zen-shu sect in his later years. Excelled at Chinese poem and waka, and influenced Masaoka Shiki, a haiku poet.
