Biography Koiso Ryohei (1903-1988) was a Japanese oil painter born in Hyogo Prefecture. Graduated from the western painting department of Tokyo School of Fine Arts (later Tokyo University of the Arts) in 1927. Received the special award at the Imperial Arts Exhibition for his painting "Statue of Miss. T." Studied abroad in Europe for two years. After returning to Japan, formed the Shinseisaku Association. During World War II, as a military painter, created paintings depicting Japanese battle scenes. Awarded the Third Order of the Rising Sun, the Order of Cultural Merit, and the Person of Cultural Merits. Member of the Japan Art Academy, and Emeritus professor at Tokyo University of the Arts.
