Artist Goseda Horyu, the 1st

Biography Goseda Horyu, the 1st(1827-1892) was a Western-style painter born in Edo(present Tokyo). Studied Ukiyoe painting under Utagawa Kunishige and the Kano school of painting under Higuchi Tangetsu. Also studied under Charles Wirgman in Yokohama. The imperial household agency commanded him to create a portrait of Emperor Meiji.

Umezono Yoshimasa(unknown) was a calligrapher at the imperial household agency. Edited and published a book "Gochikudo-showa" with Ebizuka Shiroemon in 1931.
