Artist Fukuda Hanko

Biography Fukuda Hanko(1804-1864) was a Japanese painter born in Enshu Province(present Shizuoka Prefecture). Studied painting under Muramatsu Iko who was the official painter of Kakegawa Domain and a pupil of Tani Buncho. Later studied painting under Kazan in Edo(present Tokyo). Excelled at landscape painting.

Ishikawa Kosai(1833-1918) was a Confucian scholar born in Mikawa Province(present Aichi Prefecture). Liked literature since he was a child and studied under Nishioka Suien. Excelled at poetry and Japanese Nanga(Chinese-style painting) painting. Associated with Ka Josho, a Chinese diplomat and an ambassador to Japan from Qing dynasty.
