Biography Koiso Ryohei (1903-1988) was a Japanese oil painter born in Hyogo. Graduated from the western painting department of Tokyo School of Fine Arts (later Tokyo University of the Arts) in 1927. Studied abroad in Europe for two years. After returning to Japan, formed the Shinseisaku Association. During the World War II, as a military painter, created paintings depicting Japanese battle scenes. Was awarded the Third Order of the Rising Sun, the Order of Culture, and the Person of Cultural Merits. Member of the Japan Art Academy, and the Emeritus professor at Tokyo University of the Arts.
