Biography Tawaraya Sotatsu (unknown-1643) was a Japanese painter born in Kaga Province(present Ishikawa Prefecture). Associated with Karasuma Mitsuhiro and Honami Koetsu, etc. Founder of the Rinpa school of the painting. His representative work, the folding screen of "Wind God and Thunder God" owned by Kenninji temple is designated as a National Treasure.
