Artist Uragami Gyokudo
Title Reading in the Rain
Biography Uragami Gyokudo (1745-1820) was a literati painter born in Bizen Province. Left the domain, traveled around various places, and eventually settled in Kyoto. Studied nanga (Chinese style painting) by himself. Associated with other literati, such as Kimura Kenkado, Tani Buncho, and Okada Beisanjin. Contributed to the promotion of Sencha tea ceremony.
