Biography Oishi Kuranosuke(1659-1703) was a samurai born in Harima(south-west part of present Hyogo Prefecture.) Served to a feudal lord, Asano Naganori as the head of chief retainers of Ako Domain in Harima Province. Learned under Yamaga Soko and Ito Jinsai. For the sake of making up for the disgrace of his lord, organized forty-seven loyalists called Ako Roshi (lordless samurai of Ako domain) and launched a raid at Kira’s residence. Well-known for “Chusingura (the Treasury of Loyal Retainers).” Excelled at Calligraphy.
