Biography Shirakawa Shizan(1759-1850) was a Japanese painter born in Sumoto, Awaji Province. Moved to live in Edo(present Tokyo) and established a private school of calligraphy and painting. Excelled at Haiku and Haiga (Haiku picture). His pupils include Watanabe Kazan.
