Title Floating Grass with Haiku
Biography Sakaki Hyakusen (1697-1752) was a Japanese nanga (Chinese-style painting) artist. In his early days, studied haiku under Kagami Shiko. Taught himself to paint and made painting his profession from the age of forty eight. His painting style varied from nanga to haiga (a style of Japanese painting). His works inspired Yosa Buson.

Nakagawa Otsuyu (1675-1739) was a Japanese Haiku poet born in Ise (present Mie Prefecture). Changed his occupation from a timber merchant to Onshi of Ise Jingu Shrine. Became a pupil of Matsuo Basho and learned Haikai under Iwata Ryoto of a pupil of Basho.
