Artist Ogyu Sorai
Title Poem
Biography Ogyu Sorai (1666-1728) was a Confucian scholar born in Edo (present Tokyo). His father was a court physician of Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, the 5th shogun of Tokugawa Shogunate. Served Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu. His pupils include Dazai Shundai and Hattori Nankaku. 


Nakabayashi Gochiku (1827-1913) was a calligrapher born in Hizen (present Saga Prefecture). Learned calligraphy under Yamauchi Kosetsu and Ichikawa Beian in Edo. Studied Rikucho(Six Dynasties) style of calligraphy. Wrote his own theory of calligrapjhy “Gochikudoshowa".
