Artist Rai Sanyo
Title Calligraphy
Biography Rai Sanyo (1780-1832) was a Confucian scholar, born in Aki Province. Studied under Bido Jishu and Kan Sazan. Left Hiroshima Domain; established and lived in the Residence of Sanshisuimei-sho in Kyoto. Written works include "Nihon Gaishi" (Unofficial History of Japan). His three sons were also well-known Confucian scholars.

Rai Kiyoshi(1857-1929) was a Confucian scholar, born in Kyoto. Eldest son of Rai Sanyo's second son, Rai Shiho.
