Biography Mokkei (Muqi Fachang) was Chinese monk and painter bornin Sichun


Kano Tanyu(1602-1674) was born in Kyoto as the elderst son of Kano Takanobu, grandson of Kano Eitoku. At the age 16, he was appointed as an official painter for Tokugawa Shogunate and moved to Edo(now Tokyo). Produced the wall paintngs in Nijo Castle, Nagoya Castle and Imperial Palace etc. Established his own school named Kajiyabashi-Kano.
