Biography |
Tawaraya Sotatsu (-1643) was Japanese painter born in Kaga (present southern part of Ishikawa Prefecture). Associated with Karasuma Mitsuhiro and Honami Koetsu etc. The Rinpa school of the painting originated in and later developed into the painting style from his painting method. His representative work, the folding screens of "Wind God and Thunder God" owned by Kenninji temple is designated a National Treasure. |
