Artist Ganku, Ryu Kobi
Title God of Medicine and Farming
Biography Ganku (1756-1838) was a Japanese painter and the father of Kishi style born in Kaga (present Ishikawa Prefecture). Developed his painting style as the Kishi school after self-learning through the Maruyama , the Shijo and the Kano school. His pupils include Kishi Renzan and Mochizuki Gyokusen. Excelled at bird-and-flower and tiger paintings.

Ryu Kobi (1714-1792) was a Confucian scholar born in Kyoto. Learned under Uno Meika and served as a Confucian scholar and vassal of Hikone domain( the present east part of Shiga Prefecture).
