Biography Kimura Tangen (1679-1767) was a Japanese painter born in Satsuma(present Kagoshima prefecture.) Studied under Kano Tanshin in Edo. Strongly influenced by Sesshu and excelled at ink paintings. Appointed to a official painter of Kagoshima domain and also conferred to Hokkyo(the third highest rank of Buddhist priest.) for his painting achievement.
