Biography Tengen Chiben (1737-1805) was a monk of Rinzaishu sect born in Shinshu(present Nagano Prefecture).
Practiced under Dikyu Ebo in Iyama-Hofukuji temple to receive Inka(authorization to teach). Lived in Onsenji temple at Kamisuwa(in the present Nagano Prefecture) and later in his life, strived for restoring Kogakuji at Enzan(in the present Yamanashi Prefecture).
