    Biography Aoki Mokubei (1767-1833) was a Japanese potter born in Kyoto. Studied pottery under Okuda Ewasen (1753-1811). Associated with Kimura Kenkado, Tanomura Chikuden, Rai Sanyo and Shinozaki Shochiku. Excelled at making tea vessels of akae, sometsuke-utsushi and kochi ware, etc.

Taught at the Kyoto Prefectural School of Painting in Kyoto and later Gakushuin in Tokyo. Established Nihongakai with Kawabata Gyokusho and Araki Kanpo. Also became juror for the Bunten exhibition. Excelled at Landscape painting
