Biography

Katayama Yokoku (1760-1801) was a Japanese painter born in Hizen Province. Traveled around Japan at the age of 13 and later stayed at Tottori Kozen-ji Temple. Became adopted son of the Katayama family, feudal retainer of the Tottori domain. Later lived in Nishi Hongan-ji Temple in Kyoto, and studied paintings under Maruyama Okyo.

Kishi Kokei (1839-1922) was a graphic designer born in Edo. Studied under his father Kishi Yuki. Also learned the style of the Tosa school and the Rinpa school. Became a graphic design official in the Ministry of Home Affairs. Established a school for arts and crafts in Kagawa prefecture and devoted to the promotion of arts and crafts. A Teishitsu Gigeiin (Imperial art expert).
